Our staff are actively involved in high-quality research, undertaking influential studies that are breaking new ground in their disciplines. Our Physical Activity researchers have collaborated with national organizations such as the UK Chief Medical Officers’ Physical Activity Guidelines, NICE Guidelines Moving Medicine, and BASES. They have also partnered with industry organizations like Move More Derby, Active Derbyshire, and Digibete.
On the Sports Performance side, the team has worked with governing bodies of elite sport including WADA, British Cycling, British Wheelchair Rugby, British Canoeing, the English, Welsh, and Danish Football Associations, and My Energy Game. Our teams also collaborate with professional sports teams such as Burton Albion FC, Leicester City FC, GB Cycling, and Derbyshire County Cricket.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated researcher to join an international award-winning research team focused on Long COVID, on a fixed-term basis for 36 months. Our team responded swiftly to the COVID-19 pandemic to establish a research program aimed at understanding Long COVID mechanisms and progressing towards potential treatments. Our research is strongly underpinned by patient and public engagement, enriching all aspects from design to publication. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team known for research excellence and contribute to ongoing projects and the development of new ideas in Long COVID pathophysiology and lived experience. The role includes disseminating research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences. It is a research-only position but may include supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students where appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have completed (or be close to completing) a PhD in clinical exercise science, human physiology, clinical sciences, or a related field, with a proven track record in research project delivery within these areas. Experience in academic dissemination via peer-reviewed journals and conferences is important. Experience in writing and supporting external grant applications is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
Salary: £29,179 to £44,128 per annum, pro-rata
