Job description

Job Title: Researcher Development Manager (Full-Time, Fixed Term)

This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position, fixed term until 31 August 2025.

We are seeking an experienced Researcher Development Manager to join the Research and Knowledge Exchange Office (RKEO) in a leading role. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering our University commitments in researcher development, supporting the University’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy (2022-2029): Making a Difference.

The RKEO is a key partner in enabling research excellence, especially following recent successes in the Research Excellence Framework 2021. We are recruiting to a range of roles across our teams to enhance our capacity.

The postholder will:

  1. Build and maintain relationships with internal academic and professional services colleagues, as well as external stakeholders.
  2. Review and enhance our existing Researcher Development Programme offering.
  3. Collaborate with Colleges and Schools to support discipline-specific researcher development programs.
  4. Work with the University’s Organisational Development team to ensure programs meet the needs of research-active colleagues.
  5. Implement strategies to promote researcher development activities effectively.
  6. Oversee systems for managing and reporting outcomes to inform evaluations internally and externally.
  7. Contribute to fostering an inclusive research environment that encourages colleagues to explore diverse research careers and opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of researcher development in research-intensive organizations, including familiarity with the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and the Researcher Development Framework.
  • Experience in running and evaluating cross-institutional researcher development programs.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues across the University.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and influencing skills.
