Glasgow Caledonian University, the largest and leading modern university in Scotland, is a vibrant, values-led institution with campuses in Glasgow and London. Committed to high-quality research and education that support our communities, we maintain strong partnerships with universities and research institutes worldwide. Research is central to our mission as the University for the Common Good.

Our research focuses on three core areas: inclusive societies, healthy lives, and sustainable environments, aligned with our three Academic Schools: the Glasgow School for Business and Society, the School of Health and Life Sciences, and the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment. We adopt an inter-sectoral approach to address challenges related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Research Excellence Framework (REF) score of 72% is the highest among Scottish modern universities, indicating world-leading or internationally excellent research. Our health research impact is second only to King's College London in the UK.

In 2023, we ranked in the top 40 UK universities in the Guardian University Guide, the UK's 2nd top-performing modern university in the inaugural Daily Mail guide, and entered the top 50 UK universities in the 2024 Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. We are the top-performing modern university in Scotland across these rankings. Additionally, we are the only Scottish university with EcoCampus Platinum accreditation and ranked second in Scotland for sustainability in the People and Planet league table.

This role is part of the UK Hub for One Health Systems project, funded by UKRI, led by the University of Exeter, involving 20 partners including NHS organisations, third sector groups, industry, and investors focused on the Net Zero agenda. The project aims to develop a toolkit for reducing carbon emissions in health and social care pathways, emphasizing environmental sustainability, financial impacts, patient outcomes, and stakeholder engagement.

The successful candidate will support Work Package 1 (WP1), focusing on emission reduction in community and primary care, particularly re-imagining mental healthcare pathways using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Our Water Research Group (WRG) and Built Environment Asset Management (BEAM) Centre will collaborate on this project, bringing expertise in pharmaceutical pollution, environmental impact assessment, and carbon management, especially in mental healthcare pathways.

  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently to high standards
  • Interest in health systems, mental health, or related fields
  • Experience working with stakeholders or participatory approaches in LCA
  • Proven academic publication or report writing skills
