Job summary

University of St Andrews invites applications for a Battery Scale-up Technician based at the Eden Campus near Guardbridge. The role focuses on running and maintaining a facility that produces small volumes of pouch-type batteries for industrial and academic clients, with full training provided.

The successful candidate will operate scale-up equipment, assist with research on battery manufacture and materials analysis, and contribute to SOPs and routine maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Operate and maintain the battery scale-up facility to produce high-quality prototype pouch cells.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) for routine work and testing.
  • Carry out minor repairs and routine maintenance of scale-up equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake day-to-day running and upkeep of the facility.
  • Operate equipment to produce and test pouch cells to an acceptable standard for clients.
  • Support research around battery manufacture, synthesis, materials analysis, and optimization of cell parameters.
  • Assist with documentation and data recording for quality control and project reporting.
  • Support the wider battery research program with hands-on technical tasks as needed.

Job description

The Eden Campus, located in Guardbridge, approximately 5 miles away from St Andrews, is home to the Colin Vincent Centre for Battery Technology. The battery scale-up facility, complete with dry-room and large-scale equipment produces small volumes of pouch-type batteries. The Battery Scale-up Technician will help run and maintain the facility to produce high-quality prototype pouch cells for industrial and academic clients. We will provide training.

Responsibilities include:
