Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a laboratory technician to support experimental work with human and mouse tissue/cells in a biosciences setting near Newcastle upon Tyne.

You will gain familiarity with relevant models of HCC, maintain meticulous records, and liaise with suppliers while ensuring safety compliance and timely reporting to academics and staff.

Qualifications

• Experience in a biosciences laboratory environment.
• Thorough working knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
• Experience of safe waste management within a workshop/laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for day-to-day management and support of experimental work involving human and mouse tissue/cells.
• Gain familiarity in the relevant human and mouse models of HCC to conduct relevant experiments.
• Keep accurate, secure, detailed and up-to-date records of all work carried out under the guidance of research staff.
• Liaison with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve problems and investigate replacement options.
• Assist with the completion and updating of a wide range of safety paperwork.
• Oversee compliance tasks ensuring timely completion and maintenance of appropriate records.
• Maintain broad and up-to-date health and safety knowledge, providing support/advice to others.
• Schedule, prioritize and monitor work and performance in line with demands and deadlines.
• Contribute to the presentation of results to the academic leads and to the group more widely.
• Hold delegated responsibility from the academic/technical lead for planning, operation, and supervision of laboratory spaces.

Requirements

• BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent in a biosciences subject or related field or equivalent experience in this area.
• Demonstrable work experience in a relevant technical laboratory role.
