Job summary

The University of Manchester invites applications for a Research Technician in the Manchester Neurovascular programme. You will work under Professor Adam Greenstein and Dr Harry Pritchard, based in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences and the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre, to study amyloid beta effects on cerebral blood flow.

An exciting opportunity exists to carry out a Research Technician position in the newly established Manchester Neurovascular programme to establish treatment option for Alzheimer's Disease.

The position will be initially available for two years, with the possibility of extending up to 4 years.

The research will be carried out in the Microvascular@Manchester group under the guidance of Professor Adam Greenstein and Dr Harry Pritchard. The post will be based within the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester and the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre.

The research follows on from the recent work from the Microvascular@Manchester group into the pathways underlying the reduction in cerebral blood flow in Alzheimer's Disease. View the related research publication

The appointed person will work with cerebral arteries from mice, to discover the mechanism by which amyloid beta contracts vascular smooth muscle cells. The goal of the project is to trial novel compounds to prevent amyloid beta induced vasoconstriction, thereby increasing cerebral blood flow and maintaining cognitive function.

You will be responsible for:
