Research Technician

About the Opportunity

Aaron Seitz and Susanne Jaeggi at the Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-Being seek Research Technicians to assist in studies focused on measuring and training cognitive processes. Primary responsibilities will include leading and managing studies focused on digital cognitive assessments (e.g., vision, hearing, attention, memory, etc) and digital cognitive training programs. We work with diverse populations, including ages (ranging from children to older adults), neurodiverse individuals and those with perceptual and cognitive needs, thus, candidates should be sensitive to the needs of different people, also including people of different backgrounds (i.e., race, culture, gender, socioeconomic status, etc). Additionally, an ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills, who can work well in both remote and in-person settings with PIs, graduate students, undergraduate students, programmers, designers, community partners, and national/international collaborators.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

1. Develop study tools (e.g., tracking forms, questionnaires, administration protocols), train research assistants on study procedures, and run participants through study procedures.
2. Lead project meetings, coordinating with team members to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure continuous advancement toward research objectives.
3. Engage with potential participants through various recruitment methods (e.g., flyers, ads, events, etc) and train, support, and supervise research assistants and staff to help with participant recruitment.
4. Verify participant data daily to ensure collection is accurate and process data with MATLAB, Python, and R scripts as needed.
5. Prepare and maintain IRB materials, ensuring compliance with approved procedures.
6. Oversee the ordering, inventory, and management of lab equipment and office supplies; collaborate with the finance and IT departments to coordinate equipment procurement.
7. Supervise daily lab operations, address issues that arise, and report them to supervisors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Recruitment of research participants (10%);
2. Managing research studies (40%);
3. Data management (20%);
4. RA management and training (20%); and
5. Other lab responsibilities (10%).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. BA/BS degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Education, or related technical field.
2. Experience with IRB and clinical trial procedures.
3. One to three years of academic or professional experience in a research lab.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
6. Excellent interpersonal, time management, and solution-focused problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to keep accurate and detailed records of research data.
8. Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, including evening / after-hours and weekend hours, as needed for particular research activities, and to travel off-site for recruitment events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience working with older adults, children, and managing undergraduate staff.
2. Experience managing different large-scale projects.
3. Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, and R.

Expected Hiring Range:
$20.47 - $28.14
