Job summary

The University of Glasgow is seeking a skilled Research Software Engineer to join its Centre for Data Science and AI in Glasgow. You will work with RCaaS teams to deliver data-driven research software, contribute to proposals, and lead training and knowledge transfer across the research community.

You will advance software practices, collaborate with principal investigators, and help scale research outputs on HPC and cloud platforms while maintaining a strong publication record and research

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification SCQF level 12(PhD) in a related Computer Science, Engineering or STEM subject or equivalent professional qualification and experience.
• Excellent knowledge of applying state-of-the-art data science and AI techniques from research.
• Broad knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, C++, Java, Julia, C) and HPC/cloud platforms for scale.
• Knowledge of software development practices for research with version control, testing and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Initiate, maintain, and co-lead collaborative research projects with software as a research tool.
• Collaborate with PIs to identify funding sources and develop proposals.
• Present, disseminate and explain team work via reports and software packages.
• Develop relationships to promote best software practices and communities of practice.
• Develop and deliver training to research colleagues on computational and software engineering skills.
• Knowledge transfer within the team and external colleagues via tutorials and events.
• Advise on plans to use high-performance computing facilities.
• Support open research and FAIR data principles.
• Enhance the Centre’s profile with publications and impact.
