Gigaton is building autonomous AI control and optimisation systems to cut emissions from heavy industrial plants. We seek a Research Scientist with a PhD (or equivalent) and strong Python/ML skills to develop modelling, identification and control methods for real-world plants, alongside process and deployment engineers.

Qualifications

• PhD in control, ML, applied mathematics, engineering, physics or equivalent research experience.
• Strong research background in control theory, data-driven control, Bayesian optimisation, probabilistic modelling, physics-informed machine learning, imitation learning or model-based reinforcement learning.
• Proven ability to formulate research questions and evaluate methods via publications, open-source work or applied research.

Responsabilités

• Shape our R&D agenda by turning live plant challenges into well-defined research problems.
• Develop and implement methods for modelling, identification, optimisation and control of complex physical systems.
• Design rigorous experiments, establish strong baselines and understand why a method works.
• Work with process engineers to incorporate plant physics and constraints into models and algorithms.
• Collaborate with ML and deployment engineers to evaluate promising methods and bring them into production.
• Monitor deployed performance, investigate failures and guide further research.
• Communicate findings clearly and contribute to the team’s scientific understanding.
