Research Scientist / Associate – Upstream Process Development

Roles: Full-time, permanent

Location: Harrow, London

Salary: Competitive + bonus + benefits

The Role:

We are seeking a proactive and methodical Research Scientist / Research Associate to join our growing Upstream Process Development team. You will support our cell culture operations, including revival, subculture, cryopreservation, and media preparation, while optimizing mammalian cell culture parameters using Ambr250 bioreactors and other advanced equipment. Your responsibilities will include inoculation, daily monitoring, data analysis, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

You will regularly analyze data such as cell density, viability, and metabolites, and maintain lab documentation including SOPs and risk assessments. You will also design experiments, produce data summaries, and participate in safety inspections and equipment maintenance. This role offers opportunities to collaborate with teams in the UK and abroad, contributing to our growth plans.

The Person:

  • Experience in a similar role within biopharma, biotech, or contract research labs, with technical expertise in automated bioreactors for mammalian cell culture (e.g., Ambr250, small-scale bioreactors, 5-10 L bioreactors).
  • Experience in upstream process development for biosimilars.
  • Knowledge of GLP and GMP requirements.
  • Understanding of therapeutic antibody/protein quality attributes.
  • Proficiency in IT and data analysis software, including Microsoft Office and biopharma analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with confidence working across different levels and cultures.
  • Proactive, agile, and capable of working independently or in a team.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage conflicting tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Degree, Masters, or PhD in Biological Sciences or related field.
