Summary
50% Research Assistant (UoB):
- Maintain tissue pipelines between QEHB theatres and UoB labs, including Whole Genome Sequencing NHS standard care pipelines.
- Collaborate with Dr. Victoria Wykes to curate and maintain records of clinical data for research studies such as BRAIN STAT and BRAIN MATRIX.
- Liaise with laboratory scientists regarding brain tumour model development.
- Contribute to other research projects as directed by the line manager.
- Assist in data collection and preparation for publications arising from research activities.
- Support Patient and Public Involvement activities related to brain tumour research through BERTI-West Midlands.
50% Physicians Associate Neurosurgery (UHB):
Work under supervision, with an initial induction to assess skills and determine supervision levels, delivering high-quality clinical care within a multidisciplinary team, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation.
Main Duties
Research Assistant (UoB):
- Assist with patient consent and data collection for research studies, with appropriate training.
- Coordinate tissue and biological material collection from theatres.
- Maintain records complying with HTA legislation and manage clinical and 'omics' data.
- Present research findings and contribute to academic publications and presentations.
- Support staff and students accessing research materials and models.
- Address challenges impacting research objectives and deadlines.
- Perform administrative tasks related to research activities.
- Promote equality and diversity in the workplace.
Physicians Associate Neurosurgery (UHB):
- Manage patient care within the scope of practice under supervision.
- Develop extensive knowledge and act as a resource within the team.
- Contribute to regulatory compliance, audits, and professional activities.
Person Specification
- Degree and Masters (or equivalent) in a biological discipline (desired).
- Physicians Associate Degree (essential).
- Knowledge of UK research and tissue legislation and Good Clinical Practice.
- Familiarity with REDCap and Procuro software (desirable).
- Flexible, collaborative, analytical, and effective communicator.
- Understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and experience with PPI in research.
Additional Responsibilities
- Coordinate research pathways, tissue pipelines, and PPI activities.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including NHS and academic teams.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, and recruitment policies, including OH and DBS checks.
