Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Research Nurse to support clinical research studies 17.5 hours per week at Garswood Surgery. This role involves the coordination and delivery of primary care research projects supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN). The postholder will be based within the GP surgery but will also collaborate with members of the RRDN and the St Helens North primary care network.

Main duties of the job
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead GP for Research, wider research team members, practice staff, and NIHR staff.
  • Liaise effectively with the wider team members.
  • Undertake required training for each research study.
  • Recruit and consent patients to trials; gather relevant data and perform follow-up per trial protocols.
  • Support health promotion initiatives and encourage patient self-care.
  • Travel to other research sites as needed.

Job responsibilities
  • Contribute to the planning and logistics of research trials.
  • Maintain familiarity with study protocols and amendments.
  • Ensure accurate, regulatory-compliant data entry into study documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Safeguard participant rights and welfare throughout study involvement.
  • Support the safe administration of trial medications and treatments.
  • Record and report adverse events to the Lead GP.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, consent, follow-up, and data management.
  • Conduct pre-study screening of participants.
  • Manage receipt, storage, and accountability of study medications under supervision.
  • Maintain secure storage of clinical supplies and ensure equipment functionality.
  • With appropriate training, collect clinical samples for research purposes.
  • Manage daily workload independently.
  • Engage in CPD and role-specific training.
  • Promote health education and self-care practices among patients.
  • Uphold participants' rights, privacy, dignity, and cultural beliefs.
