Salary: £35,608 to £37,694 with progression to £46,049 per annum

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Research & Innovation for a Research Integrity & Compliance Manager. Based in the Research Policy Intelligence and Ethics (RPIE) team you will be a key point of contact for research integrity and compliance and particularly in relation to research security and the 'Trusted Research' agenda. You will provide support and advice for the PVC Research & Innovation, the Director of Research & Innovation and a range of stakeholders from across the University.

As a key member of the Research Policy Intelligence and Ethics (RPIE) Team, you will support the development of relevant processes and procedures.You will build effective working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact and maintaining up-to-date knowledge and sector networks to underpin the University’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of research integrity and compliance.

This is a high-profile role working across the Faculties and liaising externally including with funding bodies and government agencies.

Key Accountabilities

Research policy development

-Provision of support and advice for the PVC Research & Innovation, Director of Research & Innovation and other senior stakeholders in the development of the University’s research policies and procedures, particularly relating to research integrity, research ethics, due diligence of research activities and compliance with legal / regulatory requirements.
-Assist with the drafting, submission for approval and implementation of new, and revisions to existing, policies and procedures relevant to the portfolio.


Research compliance

-Work with stakeholders across the University to ensure relevant data is captured within the University’s research systems.
-Work with other members of the RPIE team to develop effective compliance monitoring processes in line with funder and statutory requirements
-Monitor and report on compliance to relevant bodies both internal and external. Make recommendations on the controls to manage risks relating to research governance.
-Work with stakeholders across the University to identify and overcome real or perceived barriers to effective research compliance and governance.
-Develop and operate an effective due diligence process which supports the ‘Trusted Research’ agenda.


Research Integrity

-Provide support to the Faculty Ethics Committees in the provision of expert advice and provide resolution to problems arising in the process through knowledge of policy and procedure and resolving issues where no specific guidance exists.
-Coordinate the investigation of allegations of research misconduct in accordance with University policy and procedures, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including funding bodies, as appropriate.
-Oversee the delivery of University policies and procedures for research integrity, research ethics, due diligence of research activities and compliance with legal / regulatory requirements in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.


Operational delivery & project management

-Support relevant committees overseeing research governance arrangements.
-Administration of the University’s Annual Research Integrity Statement for consideration by relevant Committees.
-Support internal communications relating to research integrity and governance matters including externally facing websites.
-Work with RPIE colleagues and other relevant stakeholders on delivery of support for compliance with non-financial funder conditions including the ongoing review of business processes and research management IT/systems functionality.
-Provide advice, support, guidance and training as required to underpin the University’s commitment to high standards of research integrity and compliance.
-Contribute to the provision of specialist advice and support relating to other research governance issues including open access and open data, responding to changes in national policy and ensuring appropriate internal processes and procedures are in place, working with other University stakeholders as appropriate.


General

-Represent the University at any relevant external meetings, conferences or other events.
-Support Freedom of Information requests and Data Protection issues.
-Although based within the RPIE team you will maintain strong links with the Research Grants & Contracts Team within Research & Innovation and other relevant stakeholders across the University.

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Ability to converse and communicate effectively with researchers and those dealing with complex technical and regulatory areas.
-Commitment to a high level of customer service and the ability to approach issues in a pragmatic way.
-Administrative skills including excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail. Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
-Demonstrable policy, strategy development and planning skills
-Demonstrable experience of governance and compliance processes.
-Experience of identifying training needs, developing and delivering training sessions.
-An understanding of the protocols for managing regulation and policy change
-Experience of web authoring (desirable)
