Job Description
Summary
This post-doctoral research will be conducted in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts in neuroscience, immunology, pain, anesthesia, and machine learning. The team aims to recruit additional post-doctoral research associates, a research technician, a research assistant, and a research nurse.
The successful applicant will investigate neurophysiological markers predicting vulnerability to severe pain and persistent opioid use in surgical patients. Responsibilities include data collection, blood sampling, hosting patient and public involvement (PPI) events, and administrative tasks.
Supervision will be provided by Dr. Ali Mazaheri, Prof. Fang Gao Smith, Dr. Helen McGettrick, and Dr. Andreas Karwath.

Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the following:
- Develop research objectives and proposals, with mentorship if needed.
- Contribute to research funding bids.
- Analyze data and interpret results.
- Disseminate findings via publications and seminars.
- Supervise students and guide PhD research.
- Develop new models, techniques, and methods.
- Manage administrative aspects of research.
- Participate in departmental research activities and administration.

Person Specification
- PhD (or near completion) in biomedical sciences, neuroscience, or psychology.
- Passion and expertise in EEG, neuroscience, pain, cell biology, immunology, or inflammation biology.
- Experience with clinical samples and data handling.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant models, techniques, or methods, and capacity to develop new ones.
- Resource assessment and effective resource use.
- Understanding of management and administrative processes.
- Ability to plan and organize research activities.
- Ability to coordinate work with others.
- Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and commitment to equality and fairness.
