Job summary

The University of Southampton invites applications for a Research Fellow to join a project on oxide-dispersion-strengthened magnesium alloys for extreme environments. The role involves leading experimental work, multiscale microstructure characterisation, cryogenic and thermal cycling testing, and radiation-resistance studies.

The successful candidate will publish findings, present at conferences, and may supervise PhD and Master students.

Qualifications

• PhD in materials science or related field.
• Experience in physical metallurgy and metallic materials.
• Experience with SEM/EDS and EBSD, TEM/STEM desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead experimental research activities at the University of Southampton.
• Characterise multiscale microstructure and perform cryogenic/thermal cycling testing.
• Conduct radiation-resistance testing and oxide-dispersion-strengthened material studies.
• Publish research results in high-impact journals and present at conferences.
• Supervise PhD and Master students as secondary supervisor.
