Research Fellow - College of Medical and Dental Sciences - 104115 - Grade 7, United Kingdom

This role focuses on supporting service users in developing high-quality, competitive funding applications for national peer-reviewed applied health research funding programs, such as those provided by NIHR. Responsibilities include providing methodological advice, critically reviewing research proposals, and directing individuals and organizations to relevant resources. The postholder will collaborate with a team of RSS research advisors based in IAHR and liaise with colleagues in Keele and Warwick to achieve objectives. The role may also involve research activities aligned with senior staff directives and collaboration on funding proposals, depending on the postholder’s expertise.

Main Duties
  • Support RSS users in developing high-quality applications for national health research funding programs, including NIHR.
  • Provide methodological advice based on research expertise.
  • Critically review research funding proposals.
  • Signpost users to other RSS advisors and relevant organizations.
  • Collaborate within Birmingham, Keele, and Warwick RSS teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of NIHR and other research funding programs, and promote PPIE and EDI in research.
  • Represent RSS at events and seminars.
  • Develop research objectives and proposals, and contribute to writing research bids.
  • Analyze and interpret research data.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and seminars.
  • Supervise students and provide guidance to PhD candidates.
  • Contribute to developing new research models, techniques, and methods.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to RRS and research activities.
  • Present research outputs in various formats.
  • Address challenges affecting research objectives and deadlines.
  • Promote equality and foster an inclusive work environment.
Person Specification
  • First degree in a relevant field, with a higher degree or equivalent qualifications preferred.
  • Experience with health research methodologies and study designs (quantitative and qualitative).
  • Experience in designing health research projects and contributing to funding applications.
  • Knowledge of NIHR research funding programs.
  • Ability to critically review research proposals.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and presentation formats.
  • Specialist knowledge in applied health research funding methods.
  • Ability to contribute to management and administrative processes.
  • Skills in planning and organizing research projects.
