Job summary

Cranfield University is seeking a researcher to bring together AI research strands into a flight-deck assistant using Cranfield's Future Systems Simulator. You will build the software platform and automated tests, set up flight scenarios, and conduct simulator trials with pilots to validate safety and performance.

You will have a PhD in aerospace engineering or equivalent, strong coding skills (C#, C++, Python), and familiarity with AI/ML concepts.

Qualifications

• PhD in aerospace engineering or related subject or equivalent research experience.
• Background in aircraft modelling and simulation, flight dynamics or flight control.
• Strong programming ability in C#, C++ or Python; Unity experience is advantageous.
• Sufficient understanding of AI and ML to integrate and test AI software written by others.

Responsibilities

• Integrate and test four AI research strands into a single flight-deck assistant in Cranfield's Future Systems Simulator.
• Build the software platform and automated tests enabling real-time operation of the integrated system.
• Set up flight scenarios and run simulator trials with pilots to demonstrate safety and functionality.
• Manage day-to-day running of the simulator laboratory and publish results.
