Job Description:

Job Description:

Scientists and Engineers, do you enjoy your work? Do you crave the opportunity to work with the latest technology and alongside industry leading experts? Leonardo offers the ability to take you from science into engineering.

We are looking for individuals with knowledge or solid qualifications in applied physics, electro-optics, signal processing, artificial intelligence, radar systems, robotics and autonomy, applied mathematics and statistics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or advanced servo control engineering.

This role is based on-site in Southampton, Basildon, or Bristol on a hybrid basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to utilize and develop your skills within an industry-leading technology company. You'll work on real engineering problems, designing and developing solutions central to our products… Plus, we offer an award-winning package.

About the Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will bridge the gap between theoretical possibilities and practical implementation in real systems. We seek talented scientists and engineers to transform early concepts into working radar solutions.

You do not need an engineering background to make a difference. Many of our System Engineers come from science backgrounds.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applied research: exploring new technologies or concepts.
  • High-level design: understanding how design decisions impact performance.
  • Low-level design: detailed design, prototyping, and optimization within your technical domain.

We support your technical and professional growth, providing challenging work in a fast-paced but relaxed environment. We value our engineers' expertise, autonomy, and decision-making confidence, fostering a trusting environment for career development.

We are recruiting for multiple roles across various backgrounds and skillsets. Based on your skills, we will assess where you best fit and discuss options with you.

About You

Ideally, you hold a PhD, EngD, or relevant research experience in mathematics, engineering, or related technology, or have proven experience. Electronic warfare domain knowledge is not required as we can provide support.

We are interested if you also have:

  • Experience collaborating within research groups or broader teams.
  • A drive for continuous skills and knowledge improvement.
  • A methodical approach to solving complex problems.
  • Experience leading and overseeing technical research or development tasks.
  • An understanding of Systems Engineering processes.
  • Proficiency in programming languages for problem-solving or modeling.
  • Experience with Matlab and Simulink is advantageous.

All applicants must be eligible for full security clearance and access to UK-caveated and ITAR-controlled information. For more info, visit: UK Security Vetting

What we Offer

A competitive salary based on experience and skills, plus an award-winning benefits package including:

  • Flexible working options, including hybrid work.
  • Company-funded benefits: private healthcare, dental, Workplace ISA, Go Green Car Scheme, technology, and lifestyle allowances (£500/year).
  • Holidays: Up to 45 days including bank holidays and additional flexi leave days.
  • Pension: Up to 23% total contribution in our pension scheme.
  • Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Program, mental health support, financial wellbeing, and diversity & inclusion networks.
