Job summary

Huawei Technologies Research and Development UK Limited in Edinburgh is seeking a talented researcher to join the Huawei Programming Languages team. You will perform original research, transfer knowledge, and engineer work on programming languages, formal methods and agentic programming for the AI era.

You will contribute to compiler frameworks, concurrency and tooling, support prototypes, and help transfer research results into practical software development solutions, working with HQ

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.
• Excellent programming, research and analytical skills.
• Good knowledge of modern programming languages and software development, including language concepts, applications, compilation and tooling, covering object-oriented and/or functional programming paradigms.
• Familiarity with modern AI and LLM technologies, with an interest in their application to software development and programming tools.
• Ability to quickly pick up, understand and apply emerging software technologies in the AI era.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work on real-world software systems and development tools.
• Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese is required to support regular communication with HQ stakeholders and manage relevant business documentation

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the investigation of key technologies and research directions in programming languages, compilers, formal methods and agentic programming, supporting Huawei’s capabilities in programming language and AI programming solutions
• Contribute to the design and development of advanced compiler frameworks for concurrency and control, and tooling for agentic programming, code generation, verification and validation
• Understand and apply technologies for AI-driven software development, including program understanding, code generation, automated testing and debugging, and improving the reliability of AI-generated software
• Support the development of research prototypes and engineering tools, and contribute to the transfer of research results into practical technologies and solutions for real-world software development scenarios
