Role Reports To: Technical Director.
Required Skills & Experience:
Educated to Degree level in Chemistry.
Experience as a Coatings / Inks / Adhesives formulator.
Experience within a manufacturing environment, understanding technical processes.
Resilient and results-oriented, with a strong focus on quality and meeting deadlines.
Analytical and methodical problem-solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Well-organised with the ability to prioritise workload.
Energetic and optimistic team player.
Ability to work effectively under pressure.
Good PC skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Position Overview:
The role involves formulating functional surface coatings, adhesives & inks for sale as compounded chemistry or for application to flexible substrates by own operations.
Markets served include: Imaging (Inkjet, Dry & Liquid Toner, Offset, Flexo, Screen), Colour (Light projection, conversion, diffusion), Labelling & Tagging (Asset ID, Signage, Retail), Industrial (Adhesives, UV blocking, anti-scratch, slip), Security – Tamper evidence (overt / covert functionality, packaging).
This role plays a key part in our client's success by driving change, promoting collaboration, and constantly striving to meet business objectives and increase customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing formulations.
Coordinating projects from conception to commercial acceptance, providing technical support and troubleshooting throughout the product lifecycle.
Managing projects with autonomy and teamwork.
Updating Laboratory Administrator daily & Technical Director weekly.
Applying principles like DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control).
Evaluating raw materials and liaising with suppliers.
Producing pilot coatings and conducting tests for functionality and performance.
Preparing for and conducting pre-production trials.
Collaborating with Technical, Production, and Sales teams to ensure effective communication.
Maintaining good housekeeping within the team.
