Job Description
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to an NIHR-funded project focused on applying agent-based modelling (ABM) to key policy areas related to establishing a Wellbeing Economy in Scotland. The modelling outcomes will assist policymakers in exploring impacts of policies like Minimum Income Guarantees, social care, and pandemic resilience. The candidate will collaborate with Dr. Eric Silverman, colleagues at the University of Glasgow, and partners from the NIHR HDRC and HealthMod. The project involves developing policy modules in Julia to integrate with existing ABM frameworks, informed by patient and public involvement (PPI). The role includes developing these modules, facilitating PPI focus groups, and coding in Julia. The candidate will also manage project activities, contribute to publications and funding proposals, and receive training in policy exchange and PPI.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead planning and execution of the ABM project, aligning with research strategies.
- Document research outputs, including analysis, code, and reports.
- Build research profile through publications, societal impact, and esteem indicators.
- Review literature, understand research challenges, and develop strategies.
- Present at conferences, seminars, and workshops to disseminate research.
- Identify funding opportunities and assist in proposal development.
- Develop collaborations with academic and policy partners.
- Lead team meetings, seminars, and research activities.
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate students and junior staff.
- Handle administrative tasks, including budgeting.
- Contribute to teaching and related activities.
- Stay updated with advances in the field.
- Engage in personal and professional development.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Enhance the university’s international profile.
Knowledge/QualificationsA1. PhD or equivalent with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience.
A2. Extensive knowledge of agent-based modelling in Julia.
A3. Knowledge of evolutionary simulations.
A4. Relevant research experience for an early career researcher.
Desirable:B1. Experience with PPI approaches like systems mapping.
B2. Understanding of public health challenges and policy context.
B3. Knowledge of calibration and uncertainty methods for ABM.
B4. Knowledge of epidemiological and microsimulation methods.
SkillsC1. Ability to produce quality results efficiently.
C2. Demonstrated independence in research.
C3. Proficiency in Julia.
