Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the IGNITE Future Manufacturing hub. The role covers steel processing, microstructure characterization, and modelling of performance under service conditions, with collaboration across academia and industry.

You will publish research in high-impact journals and present at national/international conferences, supporting the project aims through to delivery and reporting.

Qualifications

  • PhD or near completion in materials-related field.
  • Experience in steel processing and alloy microstructure.
  • Experience with advanced materials characterization techniques.
  • Ability to code or model materials performance.

Responsibilities

  • Inform and perform fundamental research on microstructure/process/property relationships.
  • Carry out quantitative characterization of developed materials.
  • Model steel performance under application conditions and validate with tests.
  • Plan work with resources, deadlines and milestones; report progress.
  • Collaborate with IGNITE team and industrial sponsors on investigations.
  • Publish journal and conference articles with research findings.
