The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is a world leader in research, focusing on Ship Design, Stability and Safety, Marine Hydrodynamics, Marine Structures, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Emerging Technologies, Offshore Renewable Energy, and Alternative Fuels. The department contributes significantly to policymaking at national, European, and international levels in Marine Technology research and its applications.
MSRC seeks to employ a Research Associate to participate in an ongoing research project. The successful candidate will work on the EU-funded Horizon Europe project: SUSTAINABLE EMISSION ABATEMENT STRATEGIES & TECHNOLOGIES FOR ADVANCED REVOLUTION SHIPS “SEASTARS”. This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% and improve energy efficiency by 20% across various vessel designs, utilizing technologies like hydrodynamic optimizations, advanced propulsion, alternative fuels, and carbon capture, employing a Model Based Systems Engineering approach.
The Research Associate will join a multidisciplinary international team and support project coordination and technical activities. Responsibilities include managing workload, contributing to research reports and publications, supporting administrative activities, and engaging in knowledge exchange. The role also involves facilitating stakeholder collaboration, assisting in project management, and disseminating research findings to aid shipowners in transitioning to greener maritime operations.
Applicants should possess a good honours degree and PhD in relevant engineering disciplines, with proven research publication experience and familiarity with research methods. Strong planning, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
