Job summary

UEA is seeking a Research Associate in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Norwich Medical School, Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies, to work on a funded project developing accessible anxiety measures in stroke.

The successful candidate will travel to stroke rehabilitation wards in the region and support data collection by administering mental health questionnaires to stroke survivors, with duties including consent and capacity assessment if required.

Research Associate (Ref: RA2408)

Salary on appointment will be £31,236 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £37,694 (pro rata).

We are offering an exciting opportunity to work on a funded research project helping to develop more accessible anxiety measures in stroke. The successful candidate will travel to stroke rehabilitation wards in the region and support data collection by administering a series of mental health questionnaires to stroke survivors. They will work with patients who may have varying needs and difficulties, such as communication problems and mental health difficulties. The appointee will also support consent-taking and assessing capacity if required.

This post is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in completing a PhD and pursuing an academic career. There will be opportunities to develop research skills, receive research mentoring, and access to research networks for early career researchers. There are also publication opportunities. This post is also a great opportunity for someone looking to build their clinical experience in a population with neurological conditions, and for those wishing to develop competencies in capacity and psychological assessment.

The appointee will be a Speech and Language Therapy graduateand be able to work in a proactive and results driven manner in a high paced environment. You will also have stronginterpersonaland communicationskills, the ability to analyse and interpret data and work effectively as part of a team. Previous experience of working in clinical environments, especially on wards, is advantageous. The role requires a high level of autonomy, involving weekly planning of research activities and close collaboration with colleagues.

Thispart-time (22.5 hours/0.6 FTE)post is available from 26 October 2026 on a fixed-term basis of 6 months.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Vulnerable Adult Barred List. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to vulnerable adults.
