Job description

About Biomodal

Join the multiomic revolution! Over the last 20 years, genomic technologies have enabled significant discoveries that bring the promise of personalised medicine closer than ever before. But after two decades of research, it's clear that genetic variation only tells part of the story – biology is dynamic and more complex than A, C, T, G. Already, the added information from a multiomic view of biology is yielding important insights into cancer, ageing, and neurological disease, and is poised to revolutionise how we understand health and disease beyond canonical variation in DNA.

biomodal is an omics-based life sciences technology and analytics company, delivering products that bring the dynamism of our ever-changing biology into focus. Our team is dedicated to developing the most advanced solutions to interrogate and understand the complex interplay of genomics and epigenomics.

We have launched our first products, the duet +modC and duet evoC solutions, with more in the pipeline, and are looking to grow and evolve our business accordingly. This is an incredible opportunity to step into an exciting, early-stage company at the cutting edge of science with exceptional growth and market impact potential.

Multiomics is the future – come and join the biomodal team!

The Team

The Protein Science team at biomodal focuses on developing, characterizing, and engineering key enzymes for our assay platform. Collaborating across the company they ensure these enzymes are robust, specific, and scalable. Using established and innovative analytical methods, the team examines protein quality and function to deepen understanding and improve performance.

The Role

Within the Protein Sciences team, the Research Associate focuses on expression and purification of biomodal's core proteins, that underpin the duet platform. Utilising molecular biology and cell culture techniques, the postholder will optimise methodologies for improved yield, purity, and functionality. Complementing this will be activities centred around optimisation of methodologies and verification and certification of outputs. At its core, this role is about ensuring biomodal makes the highest quality of protein at the most sustainable yields, all whilst actively looking to make continuous improvements.

This role focuses on the core aspects of production and purification, so we need an individual with a strong track record of hands on high through put purification methods, ideally using the AKTA platform.

  • High throughput protein purification techniques (e.g., AKTA and plate-based systems)
  • Confidence in basic laboratory methods such as cell culture, PCR and DNA extraction
  • Experience with protein expression systems, (bacterial, yeast or mammalian)
  • Experience of protein purification
  • A methodical approach to their work, with the ability to follow protocols and generate reproducible, high-quality data in a fast-paced environment

Desirable:

  • Industrial experience
  • Biophysical protein characterisation (e.g. SDS-PAGE, HPLC, DLS, DSF)
  • Experience with quality management systems including ISO 9001 and ISO 13485:2016
