Research Associate - Postdoctoral Analyst for the MRC Genes & Mental Health & Health Cognition Project - Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

This exciting postdoctoral opportunity is based within the prestigious Genes & Health programme, a large-scale longitudinal study of health and disease in British Bangladeshi and Pakistani populations. The project is funded by the MRC, Wellcome Trust, and NIHR, with over 60,000 volunteers recruited to date. King's College London leads the mental health and cognition component, including online assessments, genotyping, and linkage to electronic health records for over 25,000 participants.

We seek an enthusiastic and skilled Postdoctoral Analyst to lead in statistical and genomic analysis of multidimensional data. The role involves collaboration across psychiatry, psychology, genomics, informatics, and community engagement. The successful candidate will develop independent research, co-author publications, supervise junior staff, and contribute to open science.

The Role

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading high-level statistical and genetic analyses, including GWAS, polygenic risk scoring, cognitive data analysis, and EHR data integration
  • Collaborating with partners at QMUL, NHS Trusts, and internationally
  • Designing studies, generating hypotheses, and ensuring quality control
  • Disseminating research through publications and conferences
  • Supervising and training junior staff and students
  • Managing data, ensuring reproducibility, and maintaining data governance standards
  • Supporting ethics submissions, community engagement, and research planning
Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting GWAS, cognitive phenotype modelling, and EHR studies
  • Developing research protocols and analysis pipelines
  • Creating documentation and summaries for review and publication
  • Liaising with external collaborators and stakeholders
  • Mentoring research assistants and students
  • Upholding data security and research ethics
  • Supporting dissemination efforts

This is a 3-year fixed-term, full-time (100% FTE) position.
