Job Description

The Quantum Photonics Laboratory at Heriot-Watt University is seeking a talented scientist to conduct research on quantum, linear, and nonlinear optical spectroscopy of twisted 2D van der Waals crystals. This project is part of a University Research Fellowship from the Royal Society, focusing on programmable moiré quantum materials.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct research in linear and nonlinear spectroscopy of 2D moiré semiconductor heterostructures.
  2. Analyze and interpret data, oversee postgraduate and undergraduate students, and collaborate with other investigators.
  3. Prepare scientific papers and present research at conferences.
  4. Meet project milestones and report progress regularly.
  5. Maintain detailed records of research activities.
  6. Collaborate with internal and external partners, contribute to grant proposals, and develop research objectives.
  7. Disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.
  8. Participate in outreach activities, including public talks and demonstrations.
Candidate Profile

Applicants should have a strong background in condensed matter physics and optical spectroscopy, with a PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, engineering, or related fields. A proven track record in optical spectroscopy, quantum optics, and scientific publishing is essential. The candidate should be capable of conducting independent research, supervising junior researchers, and engaging in collaborative projects.
