Job description

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London, White City campus. The project, funded by EPSRC and titled “Adopting Green Solvents through Predicting Reaction Outcomes with AI/Machine Learning,” involves collaboration among Imperial College London, University of Leeds, University of Southampton, and various UK and international partners.

You will join a multidisciplinary team exploring new tools and technologies in synthetic chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Translating published synthetic procedures into automated workflows for high-throughput platforms and analytical equipment.
  2. Managing large databases of complex reaction data.
  3. Developing tools for database interaction and analysis.

Outputs will support collaborators developing reaction prediction tools using machine learning.

You will participate in co-supervising project students and ensure safe and smooth lab operations.

Requirements:

  • PhD in synthetic or physical organic chemistry.
  • Experience with parallel reactions, automated kinetic instruments, and analytical techniques like HPLC and GC.
  • Knowledge of Design-of-Experiment and high-throughput reaction technologies is advantageous.

Skills in developing new concepts, problem-solving, research independence, and teamwork are essential. Strong communication skills are required for publications and funding applications.
