Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented post-doctoral molecular epidemiologist to gain in-depth knowledge and experience in using advanced epidemiological and statistical tools to analyse large multi-omics datasets from several large-scale prospective cohorts addressing important questions in cancer aetiology and prevention. In addition, you will be passionate about translation of the research findings into practice.

Several positions are currently available to work on projects including, but not restricted to:

  • Role of lipid metabolism in colorectal cancer development;
  • Identification of novel risk factors and mechanisms in the development of colorectal, pancreatic and renal cancers as part of a large-scale ongoing Horizon Europe-funded project;
  • Circulating proteome in relation to cancer risk and triangulation of findings with genomic and experimental data;
  • Impact of bariatric surgery on the biological architecture of normal tissues within a Cancer Grand Challenges Project focused on understanding cancer promotion.

You will contribute to the development of the epidemiological and analytical plans, conduct the data analyses, interpret results, prepare scientific reports and publications, and applications to secure external research funding.

You will work with Professor Marc Gunter and colleagues at Imperial College and more broadly with a large multi-disciplinary international team of project partners. You will be part of the Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research Unit, a partnership between Imperial College London and the Institute for Cancer Research, which works across several aspects of cancer epidemiology, for example coordinating the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition, as well as several large national and international consortia.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated post-doctoral researcher with a background in epidemiology, biostatistics or other related disciplines, with strong statistical skills, and experience in cancer and/or molecular epidemiology.

  • Hold a PhD degree or equivalent (or be close to completion*) in Epidemiology, Biology, Biostatistics, or closely related discipline.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £43,003 - £46,297 per annum.

  • Work at the intersection of epidemiology, biostatistics and omics, participating in the development of this emerging research field.
  • Grow your career with tailored training programmes for academic staff including dedicated support with navigating your career and managing research as well as opportunities for promotion and progression.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various resources to support your personal and professional development.
