Job Description:

The Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI), led by Professor Ara Darzi, is seeking to appoint a Research Associate in behavioural science in cancer screening. The role involves conducting and supporting a funded research study with industry partners to design targeted interventions to increase cervical and lung screening uptake. The project collaborates with health startup Appt Health, used by the NHS, to improve preventive healthcare engagement. Funded for 2 years, the study aims to design and test behavioural science-informed communication strategies to enhance screening rates at a population level.

As a core team member, you will support the development and evaluation of interventions, focusing on messaging for low-uptake groups through literature reviews and co-design workshops.

Three low-uptake subgroups for lung and cervical cancer screening will be selected, with three workshops conducted for each group, in person across the UK (willingness to travel required).

You will collaborate with Imperial College and Appt Health colleagues to co-design messages, facilitate PPIE meetings, and evaluate outcomes.

Your responsibilities include assisting with report and academic paper writing, and presenting findings to stakeholders. You will work under Dr Gaby Judah and with Dr Ada Humphrey, within a broader team across Imperial and Appt Health. The role also involves contributing to the Institute’s educational activities.

  • Hold a PhD in behavioural science or a related discipline (e.g., Anthropology, Sociology).
  • Have advanced knowledge of research methods, especially qualitative research (interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis). Experience with participatory methods and PPIE is desirable.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Be a motivated team player committed to achieving project goals.
  • Opportunity to develop your career at a leading institution, contributing to impactful health research.
  • Work within a team focused on behavioural science in health and healthcare.
  • Access sector-leading salary, 39 days off annually, and generous pension schemes.
  • Participate in training opportunities across IGHI.
  • Enjoy 10 development days for additional training relevant to your career.
