The Opportunity:

This position is affiliated with the UKRI APRIL AI Hub that aims to develop AI tools to accelerate innovation in semiconductor technologies, microchip designs, and system architectures—leading to faster, cheaper, greener, and more power-efficient electronics. As one of nine UKRI-funded AI Hubs, this program has high visibility both nationally and internationally.

The post-holder will collaborate with researchers and the APRIL operations team to develop AI capabilities, tools, and methodologies to enhance engineers' productivity in designing, developing, and testing advanced electronic devices and systems. Specifically, they will build "digital twins" for modeling device/system performance, incorporating input from automated testing routines. The research will cover automated processes for emerging semiconductor devices and efficient modeling of complex electronic circuits and architectures.

The candidate will engage with experts across AI and electronics at Edinburgh and other UK HE institutions, as well as industrial partners, to ensure research relevance and address cutting-edge challenges in electronics.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills, enjoy working in dynamic environments, and be capable of working independently and as part of a team. The role reports to the APRIL Hub Director and involves ongoing engagement with other researchers and academic leads.

This role is classified as UE07 and is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 60 months.
