We are seeking a Research Associate with expertise in clinical trials, particularly in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. This individual will be responsible for identifying, building, and maintaining relationships within the Greater Hampton Roads, VA communities that will serve as sources of study recruitment and participant retention. This individual will serve as the primary contact with the Alzheimer’s Clinical Trial Consortium Recruitment Engagement and Retention Unit (ACTC RER).

This is co-terminus position at 95% effort.

  • Responsible for identifying, building, and maintaining relationships within Greater Hampton Roads, VA communities that will serve as sources of study recruitment and participant retention. This is accomplished by coordinating appropriate community outreach events to aid in recruitment efforts for ACTC studies. This requires the candidate to document, track and prepare reports of numbers to share with ACTC leadership, relevant to research participant recruitment.
  • Work closely with the site study team and the ACTC RER Unit, sharing knowledge and feedback regarding study enrollment opportunities, barriers, and strategies forward and attend all relevant meetings, such as the quarterly ACTC Steering Committee meetings, annual ACTC CES in-person meeting, monthly ACTC CES meetings, and ACTC RER Unit study-specific recruitment meetings/webinars.
  • Actively recruit participants into a broad range of cognitive studies. Help educate trial participants as to the process of the study and address questions patients may have. This requires a strong understand of the studies as well as inclusion criteria. This will allow for an effective and focused recruitment effort.
  • Serve as the primary contact with the ACTC RER Unit and participate in ACTC initiatives to share best practices around recruitment and retention of participants in ACTC clinical trials. Attend the annual ACTC RER Unit recruitment symposium, contributing to discussions on recruitment and engagement strategies.
  • Provide fellow ACTC site staff and Glennan Center Research Team with updates on recruitment efforts with current metrics on a regular basis and respond/report on fulfillment of enrollment goals for trials and provide ACTC with a summary of enrollment efforts.
  • Collaborate with the research team in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring scientific rigor and relevance to the field of cognitive research.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of research protocols, integrating innovative approaches to enhance participant engagement and study retention.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities, prepare grant applications, and secure external research funding to support outreach and recruitment initiatives.
  • Mentor junior faculty, research staff, and students in community engagement, recruitment strategies, and the scientific method.
  • Serve as a key member of the university’s administrative faculty team, contributing to research, teaching, and service missions as they relate to community outreach and clinical research.


Required

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Clinical Research, or a related field.
  • Experience in recruitment and conducting clinical trials.
  • Strong understanding of IRB regulations, ethical considerations, and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing, communication, and data analysis.


Preferred

  • Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) or a PhD in a related field.
  • Experience in memory care and Alzheimer's care and treatment is preferred.
  • Previous experience in clinical trial recruitment is preferred.
