Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Research Associate to advance Manufacturing Pathways, Test and Supply Chain within CHIMES². You will perform landscape analyses, develop roadmaps for heterogeneous integration, and map gaps across packaging, test and supply chains to shape UK priorities.

You will join the QSS Group in the CTO Office, collaborating with international partners to produce policy‑ready outputs and design guidance.

Qualifications

• Hold or be close to completing a PhD in electrical and electronic engineering or related field.
• Experience in heterogeneous integration, packaging, test or supply-chain domain.
• Ability to synthesise complex technical intelligence into outputs for technical and policy audiences.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead landscape analyses mapping integrator needs for mature devices, circuits and interposers across back‑end EDA, packaging architectures and manufacturing transitions.
• Develop CHIMES² roadmaps and benchmark against major industry standards and roadmaps.
• Analyse HI gaps (cross‑die timing closure, DfT/DFP considerations, packaging parasitics) to inform Design Commons guidance.
• Author knowledge assets (white papers, capability maps) and contribute to future funding proposals and demonstrations.
