Job Description

Job Purpose

To contribute to research in the Geospatial Data Science Group at the University of Glasgow. The role involves working with Professor Ana Basiri and the team on geospatial data analysis using various methods and models. The successful candidate will engage in projects like "Missing Data as Useful Data" and explore issues faced by under-represented groups in (15-minute) cities. Responsibilities include delivering high-impact research, publishing, supervising students, and participating in conferences and workshops.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Quantify implications of city design approaches on under-represented groups.
  2. Develop mathematical frameworks and visualizations to illustrate city design impacts.
  3. Collaborate with team members and partners such as Ordnance Survey GB, Google, Microsoft Research, Uber, Meta, and the Alan Turing Institute.
  4. Plan and conduct research aligned with project goals and strategies.
  5. Enhance research profile through publications and societal impact.
  6. Present research at conferences and seminars.
  7. Support FAIR principles by making data and code accessible and reproducible.
  8. Participate in team meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  9. Supervise and mentor students and junior team members.
  10. Contribute to outreach and teaching activities.
  11. Ensure safety in laboratory and experimental activities.
  12. Engage in professional development.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline; experience in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, statistics, urban analytics, or simulation.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R.
Desirable
  • Experience with agent-based modeling, Geo-AI, or spatio-temporal data.
