Job summary

University of Bristol seeks a Research Associate to support a BBSRC grant on measures of welfare and reward learning. The role spans in-lab and field studies, working with engineers to develop automated devices and RFID-enabled data collection across mice, chickens and dogs.

You will join neuroscience, psychopharmacology and animal welfare researchers, designing testing protocols and validating behavioural biomarkers of affective state. This is a 12+12 month fixed-term post with full-time hours.

Qualifications

  • Passion for animal behaviour and interest in novel behavioural technologies.
  • Experience in animal welfare, behaviour, neuroscience or engineering/computer science would be beneficial.
  • Willing to work with multiple species and visit farms or homes.
  • Good organisational and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test novel reward delivery devices across species.
  • Evaluate prototypes in mice, chickens and dogs and optimise protocols.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and specialists to integrate RFID with testing protocols.
  • Develop coding expertise for behavioural testing protocols and RFID integration.
