Job Details

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious researcher to advance their career at the intersection of social sciences, housing, poverty, and palliative care. The position is funded through the ESRC project: ‘There is no place like home: Exploring dying at home in urban poverty,’ led by Dr. Kate Woodthorpe at the University of Bath, with leadership at Hull by Professors Liz Walker and Fliss Murtagh.

The project aims to explore the impact of housing on dying at home, especially among those in urban poverty. It involves interdisciplinary research across three towns and cities in England, including analysis of policy history, understanding the meaning of home, and making policy recommendations.

The role involves conducting face-to-face interviews with patients with advanced illness, their families, and healthcare professionals, contributing to all aspects of the study within an interdisciplinary team including academics from multiple universities.

We seek a highly experienced, sensitive, and confident qualitative researcher.

Selection Criteria
  • A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in project management and qualitative research, including participant recruitment, consent, data collection, and analysis
  • Emerging research track record with publications, conference presentations, and grant contributions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across organizations
  • Experience engaging diverse communities, especially in health and social care research
  • Knowledge of NHS ethical and R&D procedures
  • Understanding of issues related to loss, death, bereavement, poverty, and health inequalities
  • High-level skills in qualitative interviews and analysis with attention to rigor
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in building research networks and collaborations
  • Good time management and planning skills
  • Physical requirements as per the Equality Act 2010, if applicable
