Job summary

Abcam, a Danaher operating company, is seeking a Research Associate to manufacture Monoclonal & Polyclonal antibodies and perform cell culture tasks in Cambridge. The role reports to the Production Manager within the Cells & Antibody Team of In-House Manufacturing and is an on-site, full-time laboratory position.

You will work on plasmid prep, transfection, and purification, with responsibilities for data records and adherence to SOPs to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Life Sciences degree with hands-on mammalian cell culture and antibody purification experience.
• Attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing priorities and customer needs.
• Effective communicator and collaborative team player, able to work independently when required.

Responsibilities

• Support recombinant antibody process from plasmid preparation through purification.
• Purify Monoclonal and Polyclonal antibodies using affinity purification techniques.
• Assist in resuscitation, subculture and cryopreservation of cell lines/lysates.
• Maintain accurate records in Batch Manufacturing Records and Oracle ERP per SOPs and ISO9001:2015.
• Support continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a Research Associate who will be responsible for manufacturing Monoclonal & Polyclonal Antibodies using a wide range of purification techniques. They will also be responsible for carrying out high quality transient Transfections, preparing Plasmid DNA and performing cell culture techniques to deliver Cell Lines/Lysate products for our Customers.
This position reports to the Production Manager and is part of the Cells & Antibody Team within In-House Manufacturing, located in Cambridge, UK and will be an on-site, full-time lab based role.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To

• Support all aspects of recombinant antibody process for Monoclonal Antibody manufacture including: Plasmid preparation, Transfection and Affinity Purification.
• Purify Polyclonal Antibodies using specific-Ligand Affinity Chromatography
• Assist in resuscitation, subculture and cryopreservation of Cell Lines/Lysates.
• Maintain accurate records of experimental data using Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), laboratory notebooks, and Oracle ERP, ensuring adherence to SOPs and ISO9001:2015 standards.
• Support continuous improvement activities to improve manufacturing processes.
  

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include

• Life Sciences degree (or equivalent) with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and/or affinity purification, and knowledge of recombinant antibody manufacturing processes and protein purification techniques (Affinity, SEC, IEX and HIC).
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for laboratory-based work, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and customer needs.
• Effective communicator and collaborative team player, able to work independently when required.
  

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Use of an ERP system.
• Experience operating an ÄKTA system including Unicorn method editing/writing.
• Experience working in an industrial setting, especially under ISO9001 standards.
