Research Assistant – Tuberculosis vaccine group

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join the pre-clinical team, working closely with a post-doctoral research scientist. The preclinical team, led by Dr Elena Stylianou, focuses on the construction and testing of novel vaccines and evaluating new anti-mycobacterial drugs to improve treatment outcomes. This position will involve evaluating novel vaccine candidates and drugs using in vivo models. The role will also include supporting the general program of research within the pre-clinical team.

You will work in Containment level 2 and 3 facilities to assist with murine immunogenicity experiments, murine aerosol challenge experiments, administration of vaccines and drugs, monitoring of in vivo, collection and processing of samples, etc. You will be involved in setting up assays to assess immune responses and determine the efficacy of vaccines and drugs. You will be tasked with providing administrative laboratory support that will include maintaining all study-related laboratory and in vivo experiment documentation, sample inventories, and reagent information. You will also be responsible for ensuring that work in the laboratory is conducted safely and that work is undertaken using appropriate safety procedures and in the dedicated areas.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a BSc in a relevant biological subject and have previous laboratory experience. You will have previous experience in vivo work and be able to follow and understand the importance of standard operating procedures. You will also be able to organise your work and work independently and with minimum supervision and have good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team. Good written and oral communication skills and excellent attention to detail are also essential for this role.
