Department: CAHSS / School of Social and Political Science

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: 3.5 years

We are seeking a Research Assistant experienced in qualitative research methods to join the Wellcome-funded project titled ‘After the Single Use: Rethinking Medical Devices for Reuse, Resilience and Renewal’. The role involves travel nationally and internationally for data collection, events, and workshops.

The Opportunity:

You will develop case studies on single-use plastic medical devices in the global industry, research participatory workshop methods with stakeholders, and undertake data collection.

This project examines sustainability transitions in the medical devices industry, focusing on social and environmental impacts of single-use plastics and exploring reusable alternatives.

This is a fixed-term position from January 2025 to August 2029, full-time (35 hours/week). Travel for data collection and events is required.

Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in relevant social science, design, or engineering discipline.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods (ethnography, interviews, focus groups, participatory design).
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues in the medical devices industry.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally.
