About Us

The mission of the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is to maximise and advocate for the holistic health of all children, young people and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. The 2024-29 GOS ICH strategy focuses on its five scientific programmes. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.

About The Role

This post is based in the Child Health Informatics Group (CHIG) at the Population, Policy and Practice Research and Education Department at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOSICH) (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/chig) CHIG is a friendly and diverse group of around 30 researchers capitalising on the opportunities for research offered by administrative datasets routinely collected by government departments and other statutory bodies to create rich resources for policy-relevant research. The postholder will be joining a growing group of researchers in CHIG working on linked, national environmental and health data to inform child public health policy. This post holder will assist the HDRUK SEDH and UKRI CHILI directors and programme manager to manage the research programmes, providing proactive and professional administrative support at the interface of academia, policy and the public. The post-holder will also have the option to contribute to research activities beyond the administrative duties (initially expected to be up to 50% FTE). This post is funded for two years in the first instance.

About You

The post offers an excellent opportunity for a research assistant to coordinate and support a group engaged in research relevant to services, clinical practice, and policy for children’s health. The successful candidate will provide administrative and research support and will help the effective functioning of this busy, friendly and committed team. The post includes research time (up to 50% of FTE), which could include working on databases used within the CHIG team. This is an excellent post for candidates wishing to develop a career in academic or government research or in research administration or who wants to gain experience in large administrative datasets used for policy. The post holder will have the opportunity to work on their own initiative and as part of a team that currently consists of researchers and co-investigators across institutions. Please check JD/ Person Specification for detailed information.
