Job Purpose
You will contribute to the GKEF-funded project Media Literacy in Practice: Evidence-Based Approaches to Countering Misinformation, led by Professor Anja Neundorf at the University of Glasgow and delivered in partnership with Shout Out UK and academic collaborators.
The project translates experimental research comparing different modes of media literacy training into practical guidance for organisations seeking to strengthen citizens’ resilience to misinformation. Its principal outputs include a digital practitioner toolkit, a national implementation summit, post-summit webinars and implementation support, and evidence of organisational engagement and uptake.
Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator and in collaboration with the wider project team, you will support the coordination and delivery of the project. You will contribute particularly to toolkit development, stakeholder mapping and engagement, organisation of the national summit and follow-up activities, preparation of accessible dissemination materials, and monitoring and documentation of project outcomes and impact.
Attendance in London for the national implementation summit (scheduled in April or May 2027) is required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- 1. Support the development of the National Media Literacy Practitioner Toolkit by reviewing relevant practitioner resources, coordinating contributions from the research team and Shout Out UK, and helping to translate research findings into clear and accessible guidance.
- 2. Assist with the preparation of evidence summaries, practical implementation guidance and dissemination materials covering the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, scalability, advantages and limitations of different media literacy delivery formats.
- 3. Co-develop and maintain a stakeholder map covering organisations that deliver, commission, fund or regulate media literacy activities, including civil society organisations, local authorities, educators, libraries, policymakers, regulators and relevant funders.
- 4. Support stakeholder recruitment and engagement for project activities, including identifying appropriate contacts, managing invitations and responses, maintaining accurate contact records, and communicating with participating organisations.
- 5. Coordinate practical preparations for the hybrid National Media Literacy Implementation Summit in London, including participant communication, registration, event materials, speaker coordination and hybrid participation arrangements.
- 6. Support the organisation and delivery of three post-summit webinars and related implementation and peer-learning activities, including scheduling, recruitment, participant communication and preparation of supporting materials.
- 7. Assist with the development and administration of short stakeholder questionnaires and other monitoring tools, including programming surveys in Qualtrics, maintaining records and collating responses.
- 8. Support follow-up engagement with participating organisations to document their use of the toolkit, intended or actual changes to practice, and barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence-based media literacy activities.
- 9. Collate and summarise quantitative and qualitative information arising from stakeholder engagement, surveys, webinars and follow-up discussions, contributing to implementation case studies, learning summaries and reports on project outcomes and impact.
- 10. Maintain clear and accurate project documentation, including stakeholder records, activity logs, meeting notes, timelines, task trackers and evidence required for funder reporting and potential future impact case studies.
- 11. Work collaboratively with colleagues at the University of Glasgow, academic collaborators, Shout Out UK and participating stakeholder organisations, contributing to project meetings and communicating progress against agreed tasks and deadlines.
- 12. Contribute to dissemination of the project’s findings and resources through practitioner briefings, presentations, online materials and other appropriate channels.
- 13. Keep up to date with relevant research, policy developments and practitioner guidance in media literacy, misinformation and knowledge exchange.
- 14. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
- 15. Undertake any other reasonable project-related duties as required by the Principal Investigator or Head of School.
