Research Assistant

12 Month Fixed Term Contract (possibility of extension)

Synergy is an on-site scientific service provider, deploying expert teams within their customers’ labs to deliver core activities and support innovation across the life science industries.

For this role the customer is a modern life sciences company delivering human-focused research and discovery, enabled by a unique and proven Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) platform. They work at the interface of engineering and cell biology to develop human biomimetic platforms for the testing and development of therapeutics for serious human diseases.

The Synergy Scientific Team works within the Contract Research Services (CRS) department at the customer’s site to deliver specific contract research projects for external customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Run projects for external customers: aiding in the design of experiments, running complex in vitro OOC applications, performing assays and reporting the results to a high standard.
  • Cell line and primary cell culture - expanding cells and ensuring sufficient cell stocks are available
  • Performing biological assays (e.g. ELISA’s, microscopy and qPCR)
  • Completing data analysis to produce reliable and precise reports that can be provide to clients/customers and work to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment and following the company’s HSE policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues.

Ideal Candidate:

  • BSc (or equivalent) in a Biology related discipline
  • Run projects for external customers: aiding in the design of experiments, running complex in vitro OOC applications, performing assays and reporting the results to a high standard.
  • Expertise in mammalian cell cultures, ELISAs and qPCR
  • A multitasker with the ability to work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment
  • Preferable experience of working with advanced cell cultures (e.g. spheroids, organoids, primary cells)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
