Job Title: Research and Chemical Technician
Location: London - onsite
Salary: £22.79 per hour
Hours: 8am - 6pm
As a Research and Chemical Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading hazardous waste disposal management, ensuring proper and safe disposal of laboratory materials within the Chemical Engineering Department.
- Arranging chemical waste collections to remove unsorted or legacy chemicals from waste cabinets and labs.
- Collaborating with EIL, Department Management, and Safety teams to enforce and monitor safety procedures in laboratories.
- Acting as Deputy Departmental Safety Officer, conducting duties to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and legislation.
- Assisting safety managers with regular lab safety checks to monitor compliance with departmental procedures, client policies, and H&S legal requirements.
- Helping researchers and technical staff with writing risk assessments and COSHH assessments for equipment and experiments.
- Advising on and assisting with the safe storage of chemicals and hazardous substances in departmental labs.
- Procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for laboratories and ensuring proper usage.
- Overseeing fire safety, health, and safety regulations, including training as a Fire Evacuation Marshal and First Aider.
- Organizing fire safety tours for new staff and refresher sessions for existing staff.
- Checking and restocking department first aid kits, and performing monthly AED checks.
- Conducting fire extinguisher and fire door inspections.
- Providing safety advice to departmental staff and visiting researchers.
- Reviewing department’s general/generic risk assessments.
- Managing controlled materials, flammable gases, offsite work coordination, and maintaining safety signage.
