Summary:

The Senior Surgical Pharmacist at NHS Jobs will play a vital role within the Surgical Services directorate, encompassing a diverse range of responsibilities. Key duties include providing and managing a specialized clinical pharmacy service, offering expert pharmaceutical advice for patients with complex drug regimes, polypharmacy, and adverse effects. The role involves promoting the safe, appropriate, and economical use of medications across both the pharmacy department and wards.

As part of the responsibilities, the Senior Surgical Pharmacist will offer clinical and directorate support, contributing to the development and delivery of innovative services to enhance the surgical patient journey and outcomes. Compliance with local and national guidelines, such as NICE, is essential. Additionally, active participation in the Trust’s Medication Safety Officer and Pharmacy Governance lead responsibilities is expected to drive medicines optimization and governance.

The Senior Surgical Pharmacist will engage in training initiatives for pharmacists, ward-based technicians, undergraduate students, doctors, and nurses. Flexibility is crucial, requiring participation in extended hours, weekends, and bank holiday out-of-hours services as per departmental rotas.
