Job description

Working Full Time:

37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and professional sonographer to join our friendly, hardworking ultrasound team. We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified individuals, who will be given support to gain experience within their role.

We act as a clinical placement site for the University of Cumbria’s Direct Access MSc Ultrasound programme, offering opportunities to engage in training and mentorship of student sonographers.

Applicants must hold a recognised ultrasound qualification (PgCert, PgDip, or Direct-Entry Masters) and be eligible to work in the United Kingdom with HCPC/NMC/equivalent registration.

Responsibilities include working autonomously within guidelines and reporting protocols, performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to aid patient management, and effectively communicating findings verbally or in writing to clinicians and patients.

You will use analytical and judgmental skills to interpret ultrasound images, differentiating normal from pathological findings. Additionally, supervising, educating, and technically training multidisciplinary staff and students in ultrasound is part of the role.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: 438 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: 56 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient services.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services serving the rural population.

The Trust employs over 6,258 staff, providing acute emergency and elective services, primary care, and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000 residents across Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston, and parts of Flintshire.

For further details, see the Job Description. Recruitment will be based on competence and values as per the Person Specification.

Please note that applicants will need to pay for their DBS check, with costs deducted from salary over the first three months. Enrolling in the DBS Update Service is encouraged, with an annual fee of £16.

New NHS entrants will start on the minimum of the pay scale. Early application is advised, as the vacancy may close prior to the advertised date if many applications are received.

Good luck with your application.
