Wandsworth Youth Justice Service

Fixed Term

Full Time (36 hours)

Wandsworth, London

Do you have a good understanding of constructive resettlement, restorative practice and mediation with experience of one to one and / or group work to reduce re-offending?

Wandsworth Youth Justice Service places the well-being of children and young people at the centre and works hard to help them realise their potential to become accomplished adults. We use the skills of a multi-disciplinary team to support children and their families to address issues that may be causing them difficulties .

As the Reparation/ISS Coordinator you will co-ordinate all direct and indirect reparation and support case managers to devise and organise programmes to prevent children being remanded to custody and to support children to remain in the community in place of a custodial sentence or after their release.

Can you bring your experience of working with children displaying offending, high risk or vulnerable behaviour and support the local community ?

About The Role

As the Reparation Co-ordinator / ISS your role is compliant with Youth Justice statutory guidance but also incorporates early help and signposting. You will be expected to form strong links with local community organisations to establish partnerships that will enable children and young people to complete their reparation or participate in constructive activities to remain safely in the community.

Utilising your experience of working with children displaying offending, high risk or vulnerable behaviour, you will operate from a ‘ child first’ approach that recognises and challenges factors leading to discrimination, disproportionality and safeguarding concerns such as child criminal exploitation .

You will be required to communicate effectively with children, young people and their families, ensuring that their views and wishes are acknowledged and recorded accurately while establishing rapport and building respectful, honest and trusted working relationships with them .

Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • A recognised qualification in Youth Justice, Probation, Social Work, Youth Work or similar relevant qualifications.
  • Some knowledge of Criminal Justice Legislation and commitment to meeting the aims and objectives of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998, the Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008, the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 and the Criminal Justice Act 2020.
  • Recent experience of undertaking assessments and working directly with parents / carers.
  • An ability to demonstrate commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; good IT skills.
  • The ability to work flexibly as some evening and occasionally weekend work will be required.

If you meet the above criteria and would like to be part of a high performing team, we encourage you to apply for this opportunity.
