Inside IR35

I am recruiting for a Repair Technician to join our client's aviation repair workshop in Braintree. Working alongside qualified technicians, you will support the repair, maintenance and testing of aircraft safety equipment, including buoyancy devices, life rafts, evacuation slides, oxygen equipment and associated sub-assemblies.

This is a physical, hands-on workshop role. Many tasks are completed in pairs and involve positioning, folding and compressing fairly heavy materials correctly. Product-specific training and task instruction will be provided, with the opportunity to take on additional responsibility as competence is demonstrated.

Role Responsibilities
  • Support qualified technicians with the repair, maintenance, calibration and testing of aviation safety equipment.
  • Follow repair orders, task instructions, technical procedures and defined quality standards.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and correctly.
  • Work as part of a two-person team to handle, position, fold and compress materials during repair activity.
  • Assist with inspection and testing activities as instructed by the Technician-Leader or Supervisor.
  • Record completed work accurately and ensure the relevant repair documentation is maintained.
  • Report defects, deviations or non-conformances to the appropriate support team.
  • Maintain the condition, correct storage and availability of tools and keep the work area organised.
  • Follow all health, safety and environmental requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment.
Skills and Experience Required
  • The physical capability and level of fitness needed to handle heavy materials and complete practical workshop tasks.
  • Previous practical experience using hand tools and power tools.
  • The ability to follow instructions closely and work within defined processes and procedures.
  • A good standard of spoken and written English to understand instructions and complete basic documentation.
  • The ability to work effectively with a partner and as part of a wider workshop team.
  • Good attention to detail, particularly where quality and safety requirements are concerned.
  • A practical attitude and willingness to learn specialist repair processes.
Useful but not essential
  • Previous experience in an aviation, automotive or industrial repair environment.
  • Experience as a mechanic, repair technician, mechanical fitter, assembler or workshop operative.
  • An NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in mechanical engineering, maintenance or a related subject.
  • Basic experience reading engineering drawings or working with mechanical, hydraulic or electrical systems.
  • Confidence using basic IT systems to record work activity.
Additional Information

Due to the nature of the work, candidates will need to be able to obtain the relevant background checks and security clearance if required.
