WeMaintain is recruiting an experienced Repair Engineer for our London operations to maintain and repair lifts on a 4 on / 4 off rota. You will diagnose faults, perform mechanical and electrical repairs, replace components and ensure safety and reliability while minimising downtime across multiple sites in London.
You will collaborate with the wider engineering and Operations teams, maintain accurate records and contribute to long-term equipment reliability with a strong focus on safety and
Operating across Europe and Asia, WeMaintain specialises in the maintenance and modernisation of lifts, escalators, automatic doors and fire safety systems, combining hands-on technical expertise with technology and data.
Our approach is built on a simple belief: maintenance can be more reliable, transparent and effective when teams have the right tools, the autonomy to make decisions and a clear understanding of what's happening across the equipment they look after.
Since 2026, Otis has been our majority shareholder. WeMaintain continues to operate independently, retaining its own organisation and culture while benefiting from additional resources to support our growth.
Three core values guide the way we work every day:
Care (looking after others): treating colleagues and customers with respect, consideration and a genuine sense of responsibility.
Grit (determination): seeing things through with high standards, commitment and perseverance.
Uniqueness (being different): embracing different perspectives, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things.
Our ambition is to raise the standards of maintenance, alongside the people who make it happen every day.
We’re looking for an experienced Repair Engineer to join our Operations team in London on a 4 on / 4 off rota, focusing on the repair and technical reliability of the lifts we look after.
Keeping lifts running safely and reliably requires more than regular servicing. When components fail, faults become more complex or equipment needs significant repair work, we need engineers who can investigate the problem, identify the right solution and carry out the work to a high standard.
That’s where you come in.
You’ll be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out lift repairs and replacing components, working closely with our wider engineering and Operations teams to restore equipment safely and minimise disruption to our customers.
You’ll work four shifts, then have four days off, so the rota gives you longer blocks of time away from work as well as focused stretches on site.
At WeMaintain, we believe engineers should have the tools, support and autonomy to make informed technical decisions and take real ownership of their work.
Your challenge will be to deliver safe, effective and lasting repairs, resolving technical problems properly rather than simply getting equipment running again temporarily.
Repairing lifts isn’t just about replacing faulty parts. It’s about understanding why something has failed, assessing the equipment as a whole and choosing a solution that will stand the test of time.
At WeMaintain, we want our engineers to use their technical expertise and judgement, while benefiting from the knowledge and support of the wider team.
Carrying out lift repairs: undertaking mechanical and electrical repair work on lift installations, replacing faulty or worn components and ensuring repairs are completed to the appropriate technical standards.
Investigating complex faults: using your technical knowledge, drawings and diagnostic tools to identify underlying issues and determine the most effective course of action.
Taking ownership of repair interventions: assessing the work required, identifying the necessary parts, equipment and support, and coordinating with the Operations team to complete repairs safely and efficiently.
Restoring equipment safely: carrying out the appropriate checks and functional tests following repairs, ensuring lifts are safe before being returned to service.
Working closely with other engineers: sharing technical information, supporting the resolution of recurring faults and collaborating on repairs that require additional expertise or resources.
Maintaining strong safety standards: following relevant regulations, risk assessments, isolation procedures and safe systems of work throughout every intervention.
Keeping accurate technical records: documenting completed repairs, replaced components, outstanding issues and any recommendations for further work.
Contributing to long‑term equipment reliability: identifying recurring technical problems, sharing your observations and helping the team understand where further corrective action may be needed.
You’ll work across different customer sites in London, adapting your approach to the technical requirements and condition of each installation.
We use technology and data to give our engineers better visibility of equipment condition and maintenance history, helping them make informed decisions in the field.
Beyond completing individual repairs, you’ll have the opportunity to share your expertise, contribute to improvements in how we work and help strengthen the reliability of the lifts we maintain.
We’re looking for a hands‑on Lift Engineer with solid technical experience and a genuine interest in fault‑finding and repair work.
You should be comfortable investigating mechanical and electrical problems, understanding what needs to be repaired and taking responsibility for delivering a safe, high‑quality result.
We’re particularly interested in people who are methodical, curious and determined to get to the root of technical issues rather than simply applying a short‑term fix.
Proven hands‑on experience working on lifts, particularly in repairs, mechanical and electrical fault‑finding or technically demanding interventions.
Relevant lift engineering qualifications, training or equivalent demonstrable industry experience.
A sound understanding of lift mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Experience diagnosing faults, identifying appropriate repair solutions and carrying out component replacements.
A thorough understanding of safe working practices, including risk assessments, isolation procedures and the importance of complying with applicable industry standards.
The confidence to work independently, organise your interventions and make sound technical decisions.
Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other engineers and operational colleagues.
Availability to work a 4 on / 4 off rota.
Experience carrying out major or technically complex lift repairs.
Strong troubleshooting skills across different lift manufacturers, systems or technologies.
Experience investigating recurring faults and identifying their root causes.
Familiarity with digital diagnostic tools and maintenance reporting systems.
Experience supporting less experienced engineers or sharing technical knowledge within a field engineering team.
Previous experience working a shift rota.
These are genuine advantages, but they’re not all essential. If you feel the core responsibilities match your experience and you identify with the way we work, we’d really encourage you to apply.
We believe in being upfront about what a role involves. This position comes with:
A 4 on / 4 off rota: four working shifts followed by four days off. Your working days will move through the week, so some will fall on weekends and bank holidays.
Site‑based, hands‑on work: you’ll travel between customer sites across London, often working in lift shafts and machine rooms.
Technically demanding repairs: you’ll often be the person working out why something has failed, not just swapping a part.
In return, you’ll have regular blocks of four days off and real ownership of the repairs you carry out, from diagnosis through to returning the lift to service.
This position will particularly suit someone who enjoys getting to the root of technical problems and likes the rhythm of a shift rota.
It may be less suited to someone looking for a fixed Monday to Friday pattern, as the 4 on / 4 off rota includes weekend working.
We want expectations to be clear from the outset. Here are the key milestones that will help you settle into the role and the results we’ll work towards together over the first few months.
The main focus will be to:
Get to know the Operations team, the engineers you’ll work alongside and how repair work is planned and allocated.
Learn our tools, reporting and safety procedures, and get familiar with the rota.
Visit customer sites and start getting to know the equipment in our London portfolio.
We’d expect you to be able to:
Carry out standard repairs and component replacements independently.
Diagnose more complex faults, with support from the team where needed.
Keep accurate repair records for every intervention.
You should have:
Full ownership of repair interventions across your shifts.
Started flagging recurring faults and recommending longer‑term fixes.
We’ll consider your first year a success if:
Measurable outcome agreed with the Hiring Manager, e.g. quality of repairs or reduction in repeat callouts.
You’re a trusted technical reference for other engineers on repair work.
A role with a clearly defined scope and a direct impact on the reliability of the lifts we maintain.
Genuine autonomy in how you diagnose and carry out repairs.
A 4 on / 4 off rota, giving you regular four‑day breaks.
A salary of £52,000 – £62,000 per year
Pension scheme, annual leave entitlement and how it works on a rota, healthcare.
An initial conversation with Rhian, Senior HR Advisor – 30 minutes
An opportunity to get to know each other, understand your background and expectations, and give you a clear picture of the role and its context.
An interview with Sam, Branch Manager – 45 minutes
To explore your experience, your approach to repair work and the main challenges of the position in more detail.
Welcome to WeMaintain!
