Job summary

Yorkshire Water is seeking a skilled Repair Centre Electrical Engineer to join our asset maintenance team in the workshop at Normington. You will inspect, fault-find, test, repair and refurbish a wide range of electrical equipment, from motors to VSDs, ensuring assets are reliable and safe.

Based in our Workshop, you’ll work a 37-hour week (Mon–Fri) with paid overtime when needed, and collaborate with mechanical engineers to minimise downtime while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3 or equivalent).
  • City & Guilds, ONC, BTEC, NVQ, HNC, HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience as a time-served Industrial Electrician.
  • Strong fault-finding on industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience with three-phase power, motors, starters and rotating equipment.
  • LV control circuits and PLC fault finding experience.
  • Knowledge of safe isolation procedures per IET regs.
  • Ability to diagnose and determine repair requirements.
  • Ability to produce maintenance reports and use digital systems.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement.
  • Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair and refurbish electrical equipment to restore assets to operational condition.
  • Fault find on electrical systems, motors, control panels, VSDs, instrumentation and related equipment.
  • Re-cable motors, pumps and panels, including cables, glands and connections.
  • Perform electrical testing, inspection and certification per regulations.
  • Test, commission and validate repaired equipment before return to service.
  • Carry out planned maintenance and reactive repairs to maximise reliability.
  • Interpret schematics and technical documents for repair work.
  • Complete repair documentation and maintenance records.
  • Identify recurring failures and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Ensure safe work practices and compliance with Health & Safety rules.
  • Maintain workshop housekeeping and safe environment.
  • Support installations, commissioning and investigations at sites as required.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and asset specialists to minimise downtime.
