Do you want to use your finance expertise to make a real difference in people’s lives? Are you looking for a fully remote role where you can take ownership of rent and service charge compliance, deliver accurate reporting, and work closely with housing teams to strengthen financial performance?

We are excited to be recruiting a Rent and Service Charge Accountant for a leading housing provider. This newly created position offers the opportunity to build robust housing finance processes, ensure full regulatory compliance, and directly support the organisation’s mission of providing safe, high-quality homes for vulnerable people. With strong career development pathways, exposure to senior decision-makers, and a supportive, values-driven culture, this is an excellent role for someone who wants to grow their career while making a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

In this Rent and Service Charge Accountant role, you will:

  • Shape policy and compliance – Maintain rent and service charge policies, ensuring compliance with the Regulator of Social Housing.
  • Lead rent and service charge processes – Oversee rent uplifts and service charge reviews, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and value for money.
  • Deliver financial reporting – Produce management accounts, support budget and forecast processes, and provide financial insight for decision-making.
  • Manage reconciliations and performance – Review voids, recharges, and rent statements, track KPIs, and oversee contractual void payments.
  • Engage stakeholders – Work closely with Housing Officers and budget holders to ensure effective cost management and accurate financial data.
  • Support process improvement – Streamline workflows, enhance compliance, and help build a resilient housing finance function.
Why this is an exciting opportunity

This is more than a finance role — it’s a chance to join a housing provider at a pivotal moment of change. The organisation’s housing finance function faces real sector-wide challenges, including compliance and margin pressures, creating a unique opportunity for ambitious finance professionals to make a measurable impact.

You’ll gain exposure to complex housing finance, compliance improvement projects, and high-value transactions, while being trusted to take ownership and deliver results. With clear progression opportunities into more senior roles, this position is ideal for someone who wants to grow with the organisation while contributing to a meaningful social mission.

The successful candidate will
  • Bring proven experience in rent and service charge accounting within social housing.
  • Demonstrate strong experience in producing management accounts and supporting financial reporting.
  • Offer strong analytical skills and the ability to interrogate and interpret financial data.
  • Be highly IT literate, with strong Excel skills.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with housing officers, tenants, local authorities, and finance colleagues.
  • Be values-driven, collaborative, and solutions-focused, with a willingness to roll up sleeves and get involved.
  • Demonstrate resilience, integrity, and the ability to balance operational tasks with strategic thinking.

Based fully remotely, this is a full-time, permanent position, though part-time (4 days per week) will also be considered.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early applications are encouraged.
